The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. The words "Dont tread on me" are located below the snake. The flag who designed in 1775 during the American Revolution by general and statesman Christopher Gadsden. It was also used by the Continental Marines as an early motto flag, along with the Moultrie Flag. Today, the Gadsden flag is often associated with both libertarianism and the Tea Party movement.
